As you probably heard so many times on our TV commercials, "studies suggest the vigor and discipline of dance can make for quicker information processing and boost for the challenges ahead in life... growing evidence suggest that when children study dance they turn out better academically as well as physically." U.S. News and World Report May 1995.
The David Blight School of Dance is here to provide you with the best dance education for those students who are using their dance classes for basic coordination, timing and rhythm as well as disciplining their memory skills and taking advantage of the physical attributes a dance education can provide. We offer a competition program for those more serious dancers but, keep in mind this program is never made manditory. Viewed in the proper perspective, "competition" as means of challenging the techniques and preforming skills acquired in the studio is fabulous, but not merely to accumulate medals, trophies and titles. Participating in competitions can be a valuable adjunct to a young person's education in dance and in life, but this decision is yours.
The "David Blight Show" with the "Goofus" theme song went on the air with a live variety show in the mid 1950's. The show began on Channel 28 then moved to Channel 34, a converted radio station on South Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre. Soon after, WNEP Channel 16 took over and moved their studios to the Avoca airport. The David Blight Show aired for 13 consecutive years, mainly on Sunday afternoons, featuring variety entertainment from students at the many David Blight Studios, as well as guests from the entertainment world.
The David Blight Show returned to TV coupled with FOX TV and the CW on Sunday Mornings at 10 AM. this past spring with tremendous response! All of our Students are so excited to experience performing on a Live TV Show. From 3 year olds to graduating seniors, all of the students from David Blight Studios located in Wilkes-Barre, Mountaintop, Pittston, and Downtown Scranton were involved. Students not only had the opportunity to perform but also learn about working on a locally produced television show. Fox Executive Producer, Becky Sinke said, "I loved working with the students from David Blight. They are all so professionally trained, quick to respond to direction and just a pleasure to have on set. I was amazed at the talent we have right here in Northeastern PA!"
The New David Blight Show boasts a great set and a new theme song, but the Old David Blight Show is not forgotten. The original Goofus theme is weaved throughout the show for you old timers who remember the original David Blight Show. The Host of the show, Miss Bethany Reichard adds a youthful stylish flair to the new show. You can view the Spring episodes by going to Fox56.com and clicking on Local Shows. Owner and Director of The David Blight School of Dance, Candice Miscavage said, "I'm excited about presenting this opportunity to our students. I believe David would have been very proud to have the show back on the air. I performed on the original David Blight Show and it is amazing to see these dancers experiencing the same opportunity I was afforded so many years ago."
Emails have poured in saying, "It's great to see local talent on a Sunday morning" "The David Blight Show is back with spectacular dancing and family entertainment" "I can't wait to sign up my daughter so she can be on TV!" "Thank You for a great locally produced talent show!"
