Dancing since 1944...

David Blight School of Dance was originally opened in 1944 by Minna and David Blight. The first David Blightstudio was opened in the Orpheum Theatre Building on South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre. After David's discharge from the army, he was unable to continue his career as a professional entertainer because of a lower back condition. The David Blight School of Dance began with a reputation of quality dance education and has evolved through many stages.

At the height of the studio chain in the mid-sixties, there were ten studios located throught Northeast Pennsylvania. The four major locations were: Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Scranton and Pittston. Additional locations included Carbondale, Towanda, McAdoo and surrounding communities. The David Blight name became synonymous with dance

The "David Blight Show" with the "Goofus" theme song went on the air with a live variety show in the mid 1950's. The show began on Channel 28 and then moved to Channel 34, a converted radio station on South Franklin Street,WB. Soon after, WNEP Channel 16 took over and moved their studios to the Avoca Airport. The David Blight Show aired for 13 consecutive years, mainly on Sunday afternoon, featuring a variety entertainment from students at the many David Blight Studios, as well as guests from the entertainment world.

David had always remained active until his recent passing, December 2007. His contributions in the history of "David Blight Dance Studio's" will be carried through our teachings. He has touched many and is dearly missed.
